From Lukla to Everest Base Camp in 20 Photos

Mohamed Isa with trekking poles at the end of a suspension bridge hung with prayer flags, on the trail to Everest Base Camp

On 13 May 2022, I reached Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters. These 20 photos follow the trek in order, from a six-hour weather delay at Kathmandu Airport to three unplanned days in Lukla on the way home. Each one carries a short note from the trail.

The background colors are not random. Blue, white, red, green and yellow are the five colors of the prayer flags you see all along the trail, strung across suspension bridges, rooftops and mountain passes. After two weeks of walking under them, they became the colors of the journey.
